Open County Report

Editorial policy

Open County Report aims to make county geography engaging without overstating what a map, name or landscape can tell us. We value clear explanations, careful distinctions and visible corrections.

Accuracy and care

We check factual statements against suitable sources and distinguish established information from interpretation. We take care with place names, boundaries and historical context, and avoid presenting a single feature as proof of a broad claim about a county or its people.

Independence

Editorial choices are made for their relevance to the publication's subject and readers. A partnership or paid placement does not determine our editorial conclusions, and we do not present promotional claims as independent reporting.

Corrections

If you believe a passage is wrong or unclear, contact us with the article title and the detail in question. We review correction requests and update material when warranted, making significant changes clear to readers where appropriate.

Partnerships and illustrations

Paid, sponsored or partner material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from editorial coverage. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when an illustration is AI-generated, we identify it accordingly. Illustrations are not evidence for claims about real places.

Our point of view

Place makes more sense in context

A county boundary is one way to describe a place, not the whole story. We look across the lines to the features and connections that give places their character.
