Write for us
Open County Report welcomes thoughtful pitches about county geography and identity, from a map-reading question to the changing meaning of a local name. Send proposals through the Contact page; an idea is not a promise of publication.
Ideas that fit
We are interested in clear, evergreen pieces about boundaries, landscapes, place names, built heritage and local identity. A strong idea has a specific question at its centre and shows why it matters to readers who may know little about the place.
What to include
Send a short summary of the proposed piece, its central point, the category it might suit and a few lines about your approach. Mention the sources or materials you expect to use, and flag any uncertainty, access limits or potential conflicts of interest.
A useful pitch
Keep the proposal focused and explain what a reader will understand by the end. We favour original angles, careful language and claims that can be checked. Please do not send a complete draft unless we ask for one.
How to send it
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option for your pitch. Include a way to reply in the form; do not include sensitive personal information or material you do not have permission to share.
Place makes more sense in context
A county boundary is one way to describe a place, not the whole story. We look across the lines to the features and connections that give places their character.
